2022 12 26 Media-2, Pencil Pastels2022 12 26 Media-2, Pencil Pastels

I drew this portrait with Faber-Castell pencil pastels on acid free paper. I used a picture I took of her in which I found her expression pleasing though it didn’t look like her. The drawing also doesn’t look like Media although it resembles her more than the photo.

This was a lesson to me about pencil pastels and paper. The paper was too smooth, which resulted in an inability to fill smoothly. I’ll definitely use a paper with some tooth next time. I’ll also replace the masonite board I fixed the paper to with something perfectly smooth.

I began the drawing while we were still living in Tbilisi, Georgia, although 95 – 99% of the work was done here in Carbondale, Illinois.
