Ray Design Spiral Staircase Ceiling

The spiral staircase is developed with the Ray Motif. This accounts for its serpentine aspect. The mirror image of this is the other chiral version of ‘Ray’. Think of it as screws twisting in opposite directions. The tightest spiral has an inner diameter of zero (0). This Ray spiral staircase has an inner diameter which is one half (1/2) of the width of the muqarnas spiral ring.

This fanciful spiral staircase is situated in a forest on a ridge in a park. Visitors climbing its steps are treated to multiple 360 degree views on their way to the observation deck at the top. There they are treated to views of two valleys and distant mountain ranges. An elevator inside the supporting core structure provides a means of ascending or descending to those not wishing to walk up or down.

The distinctly serpentine, snakeskin look of the Ray design creates a seductive Byzantine spiral staircase ceiling design. The Ray spiral staircase ceiling design can be compared to similar staircase ceiling designs using the Zigzag and Crescent motifs.
