'Ray' motif dome - modulus four

'Ray' motif dome - modulus four

This is a four tier 'ray' motif dome. It shows that even though it is the simplest method for dome expansion, it is still attractively complex.

The method of using the 'ray' motif to expand a dome is shown HERE.

The simple, classical dome on top is rounded and frankly breast-like. The next layer shows an unexpected richness of pattern beginning to emerge while remaining largely rounded. The third layer shows the eventually dominant theme beginning to show itself. That is, between the 'rays' ridges are starting to become apparent. The fourth layer has very pronounced ridges. The transition from the smooth initial dome at the top and the fourth layer is a rich and interesting story that muqarnas are uniquely designed to tell.
